Cochran murder trial concludes with the prosecution resting its case | News

The murder case against Natalie Cochran, accused of killing her husband Michael, is currently in its second week of witness testimony in Raleigh County Circuit Court in Beckley. West Virginia State Police Lieutenant Timothy Bledsoe cited actions and text messages between the couple as evidence that led to Natalie being charged with murder. Natalie had previously plead guilty to federal charges of wire fraud and money laundering in 2020. Her defense attorney, Matthew Victor, argued that the prosecution’s case was based on circumstantial evidence and lacked concrete proof of Natalie’s guilt. The defense claimed that there was no murder weapon, motive, or conclusive evidence linking Natalie to her husband’s death. Despite the defense’s arguments, the prosecution maintained that the circumstantial evidence presented was sufficient to convict Natalie of first-degree murder. Ultimately, Raleigh County Circuit Judge H.L. Kirkpatrick denied the defense’s motion for acquittal, leaving the decision in the hands of the jury. The prosecution argued that Natalie had the motive, opportunity, and means to kill her husband by injecting him with insulin, a claim supported by the victim’s elevated blood glucose levels at the time of his death. The trial continues with both sides presenting their cases in the courtroom.
