Crime in Chadbourn, N.C. saw a significant decrease of 17.9% from 2023 to 2024, according to data from the Chadbourn Police Department. Chief of Police, Kenneth Elliott, attributes this drop to the implementation of new technology, specifically Flock gunshot detection devices. These devices have helped officers respond to crimes more quickly and accurately, resulting in suspects being caught before they can escape.
In addition to the gunshot detection devices, the police department began using Flock license plate readers in 2022, which Chief Elliott believes contributed to the decrease in crime rates. The department has also increased access to downtown cameras and built relationships with local businesses. Looking to the future, Chief Elliott hopes to add more security cameras in parks and recreational areas to further enhance surveillance efforts.
While overall crime rates decreased, there was a slight increase in larceny and drug equipment violations. Chief Elliott emphasizes the importance of community involvement in preventing and solving crimes, urging residents to report any suspicious activity. He also plans to enhance officer training and strengthen partnerships with other law enforcement agencies in the coming year.
The Chadbourn Police Department’s efforts to combat crime have been successful, with notable reductions in aggravated assault, simple assault, shoplifting, burglary, destruction of property, weapon law violations, and drug equipment violations. Chief Elliott is committed to continuing to improve public safety in the community through technology, community engagement, and collaboration with other agencies.
