The West Virginia State Wildlife Center in French Creek will be hosting its 48th annual Groundhog Day Celebration on February 2. The event is free and open to the public, starting with an opening ceremony at 9:30 a.m. followed by French Creek Freddie emerging from his dwelling at 10 a.m. to predict an early spring or six more weeks of winter.
Trevor Moore, Wildlife Biologist at the Wildlife Center, expressed excitement for the event and welcomed Freddie’s fans. Following the prediction ceremony, attendees can take photos with Freddie, enjoy refreshments, participate in a wood-chucking contest, and explore the Wildlife Center’s collection of native species.
Guests are encouraged to arrive early, as gates open at 9 a.m. Directions to the Wildlife Center are provided for those traveling from different directions. The Groundhog Day Celebration is a popular event in French Creek that draws visitors each year for this fun and traditional prediction of the coming weather.
