Marshall University’s football coach, Tony Gibson, is excited about the new recruiting class, which consists of 62 new additions including high school recruits and transfer portal pickups. Gibson stated that these players are motivated to make the Thundering Herd successful both on and off the field. The class includes a variety of positions with a focus on defensive backs and linemen, as well as talented players like Koi Fagan from Martinsburg and Jalyn Abercrombie from Spring Valley.
Fagan, the 2024 MetroNews Player of the Year, led his team to a state championship and was named the Gatorade Player of the Year in West Virginia. Abercrombie, whose father also played for Marshall, was a versatile athlete with impressive stats in multiple categories. Other high school recruits include players from Florida, Maryland, and Georgia.
In addition to high school recruits, Marshall also added more transfer portal pickups, including former Navy player Trey Dunn, former North Carolina State quarterback Robert Shockey, wide receiver Atley Cowan, and defensive lineman Ali Abbasi. Spring practice for the Thundering Herd is set to begin on March 4.
