Sarah Michelle Gellar confirms that a reboot of ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ is in development.

Sarah Michelle Gellar has confirmed her involvement in a potential “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” revival, almost 22 years after the original series ended. The revival idea came about three years ago when Gail Berman approached Gellar about meeting with Chloé Zhao to discuss the reboot. Following a four-hour meeting with Zhao, Gellar was inspired to continue the conversation, eventually leading to the development of a new idea for the show.

Gellar expressed her gratitude to fans who have been asking for a “Buffy” revival, emphasizing that the decision to move forward with the project is a result of wanting to get it right. She acknowledged the significance of the show to both herself and the fans, promising that the revival will be done with careful consideration and respect for the original series.

“Buffy the Vampire Slayer” originally premiered in 1997 and ran for seven seasons, concluding in 2003. The show followed protagonist Buffy Summers, who was tasked with defeating evil beings in her town of Sunnydale.

Reports suggest that the potential reboot is close to receiving a pilot order at Hulu, although neither Gellar nor Hulu has commented on the news. Gellar previously mentioned being open to the idea of revisiting Buffy’s character, inspired by successful show revivals like “Sex and the City” and “Dexter.”
