Nick Saban, a legendary college football coach with an unmatched record, will be inducted into the West Virginia Sports Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility. Saban, a Fairmont native and graduate of Monongah High School and Kent State University, will be honored at the 78th annual Victory Awards Dinner on May 4. The West Virginia Sports Writers Association recognized Saban not only for his coaching accomplishments but also for his role as a sports ambassador for the state.

Throughout his 28-year coaching career, Saban won an unprecedented seven national championships, making him one of the greatest college football coaches in history. He is the only coach to have won national titles at two different FBS schools and has the most national titles in FBS history. Saban’s tenure at Alabama was particularly dominant, leading the Crimson Tide to nine BCS/CFP title games and winning six championships. He finished his coaching career with a remarkable 292-71-1 record, ranking sixth all-time among FBS coaches.

Saban’s impact extends beyond the football field, with his philanthropic efforts through the Nick’s Kids Foundation and contributions to various charities and educational initiatives. He has been recognized as an influential figure in college football and remains active in the sport as an ESPN College GameDay analyst. Saban’s induction into the West Virginia Sports Hall of Fame further solidifies his legacy as one of the greatest coaches in the history of the game.
