The United Nations agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) has issued a warning regarding the escalating forced displacement of Palestinians in the northern area of the occupied West Bank. Since January, approximately 40,000 people have been evacuated from their homes, with Israeli forces conducting massive raids and demolishing houses in various areas such as Jenin and Tulkarem.
The UNRWA stated that the ongoing military operation, which began on January 21 targeting the Jenin refugee camp and its neighboring city, has resulted in several refugee camps being nearly emptied of their residents. This has trapped the residents in a cycle of displacement, rendering the camps uninhabitable.
According to the UNRWA, Israeli forces have carried out repeated and destructive operations without any judicial orders, leading to the displacement of a significant number of Palestinian refugees. The agency reported that 44 deaths in the West Bank since January were linked to Israeli operations in Jenin, Tulkarem, and Tubas.
UNRWA called on Israelis to protect civilians and civilian infrastructures at all times, emphasizing that collective punishment is never acceptable. The agency also highlighted the grave risk faced by Palestine refugees and UNRWA staff due to their lack of communication with Israeli authorities since January 30.
The escalating situation in the occupied West Bank has drawn international attention, with the UN urging for a halt to the destructive operations that are causing widespread displacement and civilian casualties.
