Numerous car accidents caused by weather conditions causing traffic delays in southern West Virginia

Multiple weather-related crashes caused traffic delays south of Charleston on Tuesday due to winter weather conditions. Truck drivers were getting stuck in over 8 inches of snow and slush on multiple roads including the West Virginia Turnpike, Interstate 64, and U.S. 19. Plows struggled to keep up with heavy snowfall, leading to slick conditions in the Beckley area.

Two tractor-trailer crashes in Fayette County added to the traffic congestion during the afternoon. Freezing rain was expected to create even more problems later in the evening.

Tamarack and several West Virginia school systems closed due to the winter storm. Police advised drivers to be cautious on bridges, maintain a safe following distance, and to brake early and accelerate gradually. The best advice for drivers was to slow down to ensure safety on the roads.

For the latest weather updates, people were encouraged to follow the Eyewitness News Storm Team online. Residents were also invited to share pictures or videos of the weather in their community.
