West Virginia suffers 73-69 home defeat to BYU | Latest updates on News, Sports, Careers

In a hard-fought battle, BYU defeated West Virginia University 73-69 in a close game filled with ups and downs. Despite a strong effort from WVU point guard Javon Small, who tied a season high with nine assists, BYU’s defense effectively shut him down in the second half, allowing him just one shot attempt. BYU’s point guard Egor Demin and forward Mawot Mag played key roles in neutralizing Small and securing the win. Demin scored 14 of his 16 points in the second half, including crucial free throws and a long-distance three-pointer. Mag’s defensive efforts limited Small’s impact on the game. WVU head coach Darian DeVries acknowledged the defensive prowess of BYU in containing Small and noted missed defensive opportunities by his team. The loss puts WVU on a precarious path towards Bubbletown in their NCAA tournament aspirations. Despite the defeat, WVU’s Toby Okani provided a bright spot with 16 points, while Jonathan Powell and Joseph Yesufu each added 11 points.
