Legendary West Virginia quarterback Pat White is making a return to his alma mater as the assistant quarterbacks coach and assistant to the head coach under Rich Rodriguez. White, who played for Rodriguez from 2005-07, was most recently an offensive assistant for the Los Angeles Chargers. Rich Rodriguez expressed his excitement to have White back in Morgantown, highlighting his contributions to the program during their successful run together.
White is ranked as the program’s No. 2 all-time rusher with 4,480 yards and is second in career rushing touchdowns with 47. Additionally, he ranks fifth in program history in passing touchdowns with 56. White and Rodriguez were instrumental in leading the Mountaineers to victories in prestigious bowls like the Sugar Bowl, Gator Bowl, and Fiesta Bowl. White finished his college career under Bill Stewart before pursuing a career in the NFL.
Rodriguez, who was hired in May to replace Neal Brown, previously coached the Mountaineers from 2001-07 and won three Big East titles with his signature spread-option offense. White played a crucial role in the team’s success during Rodriguez’s tenure, boasting a 7-2 record against ranked opponents. The reunion of White and Rodriguez has generated excitement among West Virginia fans, who have fond memories of the duo’s previous success on the field.
