The West Virginia University golf team recently competed in the Gators Invitational in Gainesville, Florida, with senior Max Green leading the way and tying for 26th place. The team finished in 12th place overall with coach Sean Covich noting a tough final round but emphasizing the importance of learning and growing throughout the season.
Green shot rounds of 73-70-71=214 (+4), while Kaleb Wilson followed closely behind in 32nd place with rounds of 68-68-79=215 (+5). Todd Duncan tied for 45th place, Carson Kammann finished with rounds of 75-73-75=223 (+13), and Pierce Grieve shot 77-79-81=237 (+27). Freshman Ryan Leach also competed as an individual and tied for 38th place with rounds of 75-69-73=217 (+7).
Coach Covich expressed disappointment in the team’s inability to take advantage of scoring opportunities in the final round but remains hopeful for continued improvement. The team is set to compete next at the Lake Las Vegas Intercollegiate in Nevada on February 24th, where they previously won the event in 2022.
The Mountaineers look to bounce back from their performance at the Gators Invitational and build on their past success at the upcoming tournament. With a focus on learning and growing throughout the season, the team remains optimistic about the future and the opportunities for improvement ahead.
