Coastal Maine Regional Broadband Donates Technology Hardware to Midcoast Youth Center
Coastal Maine Regional Broadband has generously donated technology hardware to the Midcoast Youth Center and Skatepark in Bath, Maine. The donation, which includes laptops, Chromebooks, desktop computers, and a Mac Studio video and audio production suite, will support the nonprofit’s workforce development program, COAST (Career Opportunities and Advancing Skills Together).
Kirstie Truluck, director of development at Midcoast Youth Center, stated that the new equipment will be used in the organization’s computer lab to increase access to technology for young people and families. The Mac Studio equipment will modernize the Maine Career Exploration computer lab, allowing young people to create resumes, apply for jobs, and conduct work skills assessments.
In addition to the hardware donation, Midcoast Youth Center has applied for a community development grant from the Maine Community Foundation. The grant will fund professionals to create educational videos, including short films featuring interviews with teens and young adults about their experiences at Midcoast Youth Center.
Mary Ellen Barnes, Coastal Maine Regional Broadband community digital planner, emphasized the importance of digital access for employment, education, medical services, and financial security. The partnership with Midcoast Youth Center aims to bridge the digital divide in the community.
An open house for the COAST computer lab will be held on February 28, showcasing the workforce development program. Workshops will also be offered every Thursday starting on March 13. This partnership between Coastal Maine Regional Broadband and Midcoast Youth Center demonstrates a commitment to empowering young people through technology and education.
