Jack LaSota, the leader of a cult-like group linked to multiple killings, was arrested in Maryland on charges of trespassing, firearms possession, and obstructing and hindering. Two others, Michelle Zajko and Daniel Blank, were also arrested. LaSota previously faked her own death and has been connected to violent attacks, including a stabbing and a fatal shooting. LaSota was also investigated in connection to the deaths of Zajko’s parents, for which she was charged with obstructing the investigation. Another follower of LaSota’s, German national Ophelia Bauckholt, was fatally shot in a gun battle with Border Patrol agents in Vermont. The shooting occurred during a traffic stop when another person in the car drew a gun and fired at an agent. Teresa Youngblut, who was riding with Bauckholt, has pleaded not guilty to firearms charges. Authorities are investigating the circumstances of the shooting and have identified Zajko as a person of interest. LaSota’s organization is known for promoting the dangers of artificial intelligence and using mathematical principles to improve the world. The state police, federal law enforcement, and the Allegany County state’s attorney’s office are collaborating on an ongoing investigation related to these incidents.
