New Technology Being Utilized by a Florida Company to Decrease Housing Expenses

A Florida company, Renco, has developed a new technology inspired by Lego bricks that can rebuild homes in a matter of weeks for less money. The company’s composite bricks are made of glass, recycled plastic, and other materials, making them durable, fire resistant, water resistant, and capable of withstanding 240 mph winds. The company’s factory in Jupiter, Florida, is set to begin scaling up operations in April, with the ability to produce 16 homes a day.

While the Renco bricks are more expensive, they save 20% due to decreased time and labor, as well as reduced insurance costs. The construction process is faster and can be done by unskilled workers, with a 2,000 square foot home being built by two people in one day. However, the primary limitation is that Renco structures are currently capped at five floors.

Architect Illya Azaroff sees Renco’s technology as a significant innovation in construction, highlighting the importance of building to withstand natural disasters. He notes that while there are design limitations, the structural and time-saving benefits of Renco’s technology are crucial. This innovative approach to construction may be a step towards addressing the challenges faced by communities affected by natural and man-made disasters.
