The No. 17-ranked West Virginia University women’s basketball team secured a 70-57 victory over No. 12 Kansas State on Monday at the WVU Coliseum in Morgantown. This win marked the Mountaineers’ fourth in two seasons over an AP-ranked opponent and their first over a top 15 team since 2019. Led by senior guard JJ Quinerly’s game-high 26 points, the Mountaineers stifled the Wildcats’ high-scoring offense, limiting them to well below their season averages. West Virginia’s strong defensive effort forced Kansas State into 21 turnovers and helped them dominate the paint, outscoring their opponent 40-28 inside.
Additionally, junior guard Jordan Harrison added 18 points, while senior guard Kyah Watson grabbed a career-high 15 rebounds. Freshman Jordan Thomas also contributed with 11 points as the Mountaineers pulled away in the second half, securing their 21st double-digit win of the season. With this victory, West Virginia improved to a perfect 15-0 record and extended their home win streak to 16 games.
Up next, the Mountaineers will face TCU in Fort Worth, Texas on Sunday, Feb. 23, in their second nationally televised game of the week. The game is scheduled to tip off at Noon ET on ESPN2. West Virginia looks to continue their success as they aim to maintain their undefeated record and build on their impressive season.
