Former West Virginia University Assistant Quarterback Coach Transitions to a New Position at Virginia

Isaiah Macklin, a rising star in the coaching ranks at West Virginia University (WVU), has accepted a new role as an offensive analyst with the University of Virginia’s football team. Macklin, who most recently served as the assistant quarterbacks coach on Neal Brown’s staff at WVU, quickly worked his way up from an offensive graduate assistant to directly working with the quarterbacks.
The Cavaliers announced the hiring of Macklin on Thursday, Feb. 18, expressing their excitement to welcome him to Charlottesville. In his time at WVU, Macklin was heavily involved in the development of players like Ryder Burton and 2024 recruit Khalil Wilkins, as well as in evaluating quarterback prospects and assisting in recruiting.
Initially, it was thought that Macklin would stay at WVU and transition to working under Rich Rodriguez, but plans changed based on recent hires within the coaching staff. Without a clear path for advancement at WVU, Macklin decided to make the move to Virginia and continue his coaching career at another Power Four program. Prior to joining WVU, Macklin worked as a scouting assistant with the New Orleans Saints and played college football at Central Arkansas.
While Macklin’s departure is a loss for the WVU football staff, the addition of Pat White and the return of several key coaches have injected excitement into the program. Fans can find more coverage of the WVU football program at WV Sports Now.
