West Virginia University’s rifle team, currently ranked second in the nation, is gearing up to compete for its 20th NCAA title at the 2024-25 NCAA Championships in Lexington, Kentucky. The Mountaineers have qualified for the championships for the past 17 years, all under the leadership of Jon Hammond, winning six national titles, including five consecutive titles from 2013-17.
The team secured a spot as the second-ranked team in the field with a qualifying mark of 9496. Joining WVU at the championships are top-ranked Alaska Fairbanks, as well as Kentucky, TCU, Ole Miss, Murray State, Georgia Southern, and Air Force. Teams qualified based on the average of their three highest regular-season scores.
A total of 48 competitors will participate in the championships, with eight selected as individual qualifiers. The NCAA prohibits schools that have qualified as a team from sending individual qualifiers.
Before the NCAA Championships, WVU will host the 2024-25 Great American Rifle Conference (GARC) Championships at the Bill McKenzie Mobile Rifle Range in the WVU Shell Building on March 1-2.
