Starting in May 2025, residents of West Virginia will be required to have a REAL ID in order to board an airplane. This new deadline comes as the state works to comply with federal regulations aimed at improving the security of identification cards used for travel.
The REAL ID Act was passed by Congress in 2005 in response to the 9/11 terrorist attacks, with the goal of setting minimum security standards for state-issued driver’s licenses and identification cards.
