West Virginia Secures 17th Win of the Season on Tuesday Night Against TCU

West Virginia secured a 73-55 victory over TCU with Javon Small leading the way with 23 points and 10 assists. The win placed the Mountaineers in a three-way tie for seventh place in the Big 12 standings with 8-9 conference records, alongside TCU and Baylor. The Bears lost to Cincinnati on the same night.

In Morgantown, West Virginia held TCU scoreless for an eight-minute stretch, outscoring them 18-0. Despite a late rally from TCU, West Virginia maintained control of the game. Small’s performance, with 20 or more points in 12 games this season, was crucial for the Mountaineers, who shot 51.9% from the field and 42.3% from 3-point range.

Small’s exceptional performance earned praise from coach Darian DeVries, who emphasized the importance of his aggressive play on both ends of the court. Despite TCU’s efforts, they struggled to maintain possessions and shoot efficiently, resulting in a 39.2% shooting percentage for the game.

The win puts West Virginia in a favorable position on the NCAA Tournament bubble, as they were regarded as a 10-seed by bracketologists leading into the week’s games. The team will now face 25th-ranked BYU and Utah on the road before concluding the regular season at home against UCF.

Overall, West Virginia’s comprehensive victory over TCU showcased their defensive prowess and offensive efficiency, highlighting their potential for a strong finish to the season and potentially securing a spot in the NCAA Tournament.
