West Virginia Mountaineers Kick off Big 12 Conference Play with Away Games against TCU and Baylor, Ranked No. 41 and No. 14 respectively.

The West Virginia University women’s tennis team is gearing up to start their Big 12 Conference play with matches against No. 41 TCU and No. 14 Baylor on Friday, Feb. 28, and Saturday, March 1. The Mountaineers, with a record of 6-5, will face TCU in Fort Worth, Texas, and Baylor in Waco, Texas.

West Virginia recently wrapped up their nonconference slate with a 5-2 loss to Marshall, but the team has seen strong performances from newcomers like freshmen Lyla Byers and Laura Villanueva Morillo in singles play. Despite a slow start, Villanueva Morillo has won three of her past five matches and has mainly played in the No. 4 or No. 5 spot in the singles lineup. Byers, with a 4-4 record in singles play, has also teamed up with senior Mille Haagensen in doubles, where they have a 5-4 record this season.

Fans can support the team by contributing to the Tennis Sport Enhancement Fund, which helps provide funding for equipment, team travel, recruiting expenses, and other operational costs. More information on the Mountaineers can be found on WVUsports.com, where fans can follow WVUTennis on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.

The team is looking to make waves in the Big 12 Conference as they face tough competitors in TCU and Baylor. The Mountaineers are hopeful that their strong performances from newcomers will help them secure victories in their upcoming matches.
