Mountaineers Remain Undefeated as Kirn Twirls Gem

The West Virginia University baseball team remains undefeated this season with a 7-1 victory over Queens (N.C.) at Atrium Health Ballpark. The Mountaineers improved to 9-0, matching the fourth-best start in program history. Senior Griffin Kirn had a standout performance, pitching 8.0 innings with 10 strikeouts and zero walks, allowing only one unearned run. Senior Brodie Kresser had a strong game at the plate, reaching base five times with two doubles and two RBIs. Junior Sam White contributed three hits, and junior Logan Sauve drove in two runs. After falling behind in the first inning, the Mountaineers rallied to take the lead in the fifth and added insurance runs in the seventh, eighth, and ninth innings. Kirn’s strong pitching was supported by freshman Benjamin Hudson, who closed out the game in the ninth inning. The two teams will meet again at Atrium Health Ballpark on Saturday with first pitch at 2 p.m. For more information on the Mountaineers, follow @WVUBaseball on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.
