Tom Llamas set to replace Lester Holt as anchor of ‘NBC Nightly News’

Tom Llamas has been announced as the new anchor and managing editor of “NBC Nightly News” after Lester Holt steps down this summer. Llamas, who is currently a senior national correspondent and anchor of “Top Story with Tom Llamas,” will continue to host his evening newscast on NBC News NOW. NBC News executive vice president of programming Janelle Rodriguez praised Llamas for his journalistic excellence and integrity, as well as his role in growing NBC News NOW.

Llamas expressed his gratitude for the opportunity, calling it a profound honor with great responsibility. Lester Holt, who has been the anchor of “Nightly News” for a decade, will be transitioning to a full-time role at “Dateline” after stepping down. Llamas, who started his career as an intern at a Telemundo station, has since risen through the ranks in the news industry, including stints at ABC and NBC News.

During his time at NBC News, Llamas has covered major breaking news events and political developments, interviewing world leaders such as Donald Trump, Melania Trump, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and Nicolas Maduro. He has reported on key stories like the Israel-Hamas war, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and various natural disasters. Llamas will officially take over as the anchor of “NBC Nightly News” this summer, promising to be devoted to viewers and dedicated to the truth.
