Wisconsin teenager suspected in deaths of mother and stepfather located 800 miles away with a firearm

A 17-year-old Wisconsin teenager was arrested in Iowa after being stopped for running a stop sign, more than 800 miles from his home where his mother and stepfather were found slain. The teen, a student at Waukesha West High School, has been charged with taking his stepfather’s car and a firearm. The victims were identified as Donald Mayer and his wife, Tatiana Casap, who was the teenager’s mother. Mayer and Casap had been married for nine years and enjoyed doing father-son activities together. The teenager had good grades and perfect attendance before suddenly disappearing, prompting a welfare check. Cellphone records showed that he traveled through several states after leaving Waukesha. Security cameras captured him driving his stepfather’s car with the family’s dog. A gun owned by Mayer was found in the car along with spent shell casings and the victims’ driver’s licenses. Mayer’s mother said her son had the gun for protection but was not aware of any threats. Both Mayer and his stepson enjoyed working outside together, with a shared love for flowers and planting trees. The teenager is currently a person of interest in the ongoing double homicide investigation being conducted by Wisconsin authorities.
