Connecticut police locate woman abducted 25 years ago as a young child

Connecticut police have located a woman named Andrea Michelle Reyes, who was kidnapped as a toddler 25 years ago from New Haven. Andrea was taken from her mother, Rosa Tenorio, in October 1999, and it was suspected that Rosa fled to Mexico with her. Despite Andrea’s father making multiple trips to Mexico to search for her, he was unable to locate them. The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children had released a post about Andrea to aid in the search, describing her appearance and potential medical needs.

In 2023, Detective Kealyn Nivakoff from the New Haven Police Department special victims unit reopened Andrea’s case. Using a combination of interviews, search warrants, and social media, Nivakoff located Andrea in Puebla, Mexico. With the help of a DNA testing company, Nivakoff confirmed Andrea’s identity and her relationship with her father. This led to Andrea, now 27, and her father reconnecting after almost 25 years.

The identity of Andrea’s father has not been released to respect his privacy. The warrant for her mother, Rosa, remains valid within the United States, as authorities believe she still lives in Mexico. Chief Karl Jacobson commended the hard work of the officers and detectives involved in closing Andrea’s case, emphasizing the importance of continued efforts to resolve cold cases. Andrea’s reunion with her father serves as an example of the dedication of law enforcement to bringing closure to families affected by such cases.
