Former West Virginia University football stars Pat White, Noel Devine, and Rasheed Marshall have returned to their alma mater to join coach Rich Rodriguez’s coaching staff. White, a former quarterback and recent coach for the Los Angeles Chargers, will assist with the Mountaineer quarterbacks. Devine, a running back, is back in Morgantown as an offensive analyst helping with the running backs. Marshall, a holdover from Neal Brown’s staff, remains in his role as director of player relations.
Combined, these three players achieved great success during their college careers, leading the Mountaineers to an 85-30 record from 2002-2010. Rodriguez praised their understanding of the program’s culture and emphasized the importance of demanding excellence from the team.
While being great players does not guarantee success as a coach, Rodriguez believes that White and Devine have the potential to excel in their coaching roles. Marshall’s administrative role is also seen as crucial to the team’s off-field success.
Rodriguez emphasized the importance of coaches knowing their craft and being able to effectively communicate and improve their players. He believes that White, Devine, and Marshall have the skills and dedication needed to succeed in their coaching roles.
West Virginia recently concluded spring practice and continues to prepare for the upcoming season. Rodriguez expressed his gratitude for having former players like White, Devine, and Marshall back on the coaching staff, highlighting their positive impact on the program’s future.
