Former head coach Neal Brown is being targeted by Texas for an assistant role on Steve Sarkisian’s staff for the 2025 football season, as reported by CBS Sports. Brown, who has experience working on the offensive side of the football, played at Kentucky in an Air Raid system and served as offensive coordinator at Texas Tech and Kentucky before becoming head coach at Troy.
During his time at Troy, Brown achieved a 35-16 record and won 10 games in three consecutive seasons. He later became head coach at West Virginia, where he posted a 37-35 overall record over six seasons before the school made a change at the position. Despite winning at least six games in just one season with the Mountaineers, Brown had a 1-1 record against Sarkisian, defeating Texas in 2021.
West Virginia is due to pay Brown around 75 percent of the remaining $9 million salary, but this number may change based on his earnings with Texas if he accepts the assistant role. The exact position Brown would serve with the Longhorns is currently unclear.
This potential addition to Texas’s staff has garnered interest among college football fans, eager to see how Brown’s experience and expertise will contribute to the Longhorns’ program under Sarkisian’s leadership. Stay tuned for more updates as details unfold.
