The West Virginia University gymnastics team achieved a new season-high team score of 196.275 in a dual meet against Pitt, marking their second 196.0+ score of the season and tying for No. 33 in program history. The Mountaineers excelled with scores of 48.925 on vault, 48.95 on bars, 49.1 on beam, and a season-best 49.3 on floor exercise. Pitt outscored WVU to finish first with a 196.575.
Fifth-year senior Trinity Macy and senior Brooke Alban led the team on bars, while Alban matched her career best on vault. The Mountaineers shone on floor with all five gymnasts scoring 9.8 or higher, including a career-best 9.925 from Emerson Smith. The team also excelled on beam, with five scores of 9.8 or higher.
West Virginia secured individual wins on three events and six gymnasts made the podium. Alban earned her first career win on vault, Macy tied for first place on bars, Smith secured her first career event win on floor, and Leigh and Webster had second-place finishes.
With their new season-high score, the Mountaineers’ National Qualifying Score (NQS) in the Road to Nationals Rankings moved to 195.47, ranking them No. 38. West Virginia will prepare for the final stretch of the regular season with two road meets, beginning at Penn on March 14.
