Houthis Promise Revenge Following American Strikes in Yemen

President Trump recently ordered large-scale military strikes on Houthi militia targets in Yemen, resulting in at least 31 casualties. The Iran-backed group stated that women and children were among those killed in the strikes, which took place in Houthi-controlled areas across Yemen, including the capital city of Sana.

The U.S. Central Command confirmed the precision strikes, stating they were meant to defend American interests, deter enemies, and restore freedom of navigation in the region. The strikes also targeted a power facility in Saada Province, causing a nightlong electricity blackout. Houthi-run media reported additional casualties in other affected areas.

Following the strikes, Houthi leader Mohammed al-Bukhaiti vowed retaliation against the United States, calling the strikes unjustified. President Trump linked the strikes to Iran’s support for the Houthis, warning against further threats from the nation.

The Houthi rebels, who control areas in northern Yemen, had briefly halted attacks in the Red Sea during a cease-fire but recently announced their intention to target Israeli ships violating their ban on passage through certain sea routes.

President Trump’s decision to order military strikes on the Houthis has been met with controversy, especially after the group was recently redesignated as a “foreign terrorist organization.” The Biden administration had initially lifted this designation to facilitate peace talks in Yemen’s ongoing civil war.
