Top Seeds in the Women’s NCAA Tournament Claimed by UCLA, South Carolina, Texas, and USC


The NCAA women’s basketball tournament will begin on Friday with UCLA as the top overall seed in the history of the program. The tournament will culminate in the national semifinals on April 4 and the championship game on April 6 in Tampa, Fla. UCLA’s top challengers include South Carolina, Texas, and USC, with USC handing UCLA its only two losses this season. Connecticut, a traditional powerhouse, is looking to win its first national title since 2016. Other top seeds include Duke, North Carolina State, and TCU, which is making its first tournament appearance since 2010. Tennessee extended its streak of appearing in all 43 women’s basketball tournaments since 1982. The First Four matchups, which will determine the teams facing UCLA, USC, South Carolina, and Texas, will take place on Wednesday and Thursday, with the rounds of 64 and 32 following from Friday to Monday. The Sweet 16 and Elite Eight will run from March 28-31. The Ivy League has produced three tournament berths this year from Harvard, Columbia, and Princeton, while first-time entrants include Grand Canyon, Arkansas State, Fairleigh Dickinson, UC San Diego, George Mason, and William & Mary.
