The Frank and Jane Gabor West Virginia Folklife Center at Fairmont State University is launching a new zine project inspired by West Virginia cryptids, including Veggie Man. The project was initiated after a successful event called “Veggie Man Day” hosted by the center and the Moth Boys podcast. The zine will feature local stories of the paranormal, illustrations, and art from West Virginia artists. It aims to highlight the culture and community surrounding cryptids in the region.
Lydia Warren, the center’s director, mentioned that the zine will focus on true stories rather than fiction submissions. They are seeking submissions until March 25 and hope to include stories from at least five counties. The zine will be launched at the next Veggie Man Day event and copies will be distributed to local libraries for free.
The project reflects the growing interest in cryptids and paranormal stories, offering a platform for artists and writers to share their experiences and creations. To submit a story for the “Traditions” zine project, contact wvfolklife@fairmontstate.edu before the deadline.
