Police were called to the Cliffs Pavilion in Westcliff-on-Sea, Southend after a fight broke out in the audience at a comedy show featuring standup comic Paul Chowdhry. The altercation reportedly led to a man being assaulted, but fortunately, no serious injuries were reported.
Chowdhry had been dealing with a heckler throughout the evening and recorded footage of the disruption on his phone, which he later posted to Instagram. The theatre management responded swiftly to defuse the situation and condemned acts of violence and discrimination. Chowdhry’s experience is not unique, as other comedians like Peter Kay have also faced issues with hecklers recently. Kay had to remove two disruptive audience members from his show in Manchester due to repeated disruptions.
