West Virginia Re-Enters the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll

The West Virginia University baseball team had a successful week, going 3-1 and earning a spot in the USA TODAY Sports baseball coaches poll at No. 25. They also remained ranked 23rd in the NCBWA poll and moved up in Perfect Game. The Mountaineers started their week with a 7-0 win over Marshall, with standout performances from Chase Swain and Skylar King. They then traveled to Provo, Utah to face BYU, where they split the series with a dominating win in game two and a come-from-behind victory in game three. Jace Rinehart had a strong showing at the plate, leading the team in home runs and RBI. Senior Grant Hussey and Kyle West also made significant contributions, while junior Sam White, the team leader in batting average, was sidelined with a separated shoulder. Despite the setback, there are nine Mountaineers batting over .300, with the team boasting a .319 batting average and a second-best team ERA in the Big 12 at 3.75. While D1Baseball has yet to rank the team and Baseball America left them out of the rankings for the second consecutive week, Perfect Game has them at No. 11. The Mountaineers will look to continue their success in future games, with strong performances on both the offense and pitching sides.
