18 people killed as a result of Russia’s assault on Kryvyi Rih

A Russian missile strike on Kryvyi Rih, Ukraine has resulted in the tragic deaths of 18 people, including nine children. President Zelenskyy, who hails from the city, condemned the attack that also left 72 others injured, with 17 in critical condition. The strike damaged numerous buildings and vehicles in the residential neighbourhood. The Russian Defence Ministry claims the attack targeted a meeting of military personnel and foreign officers, killing 85 people and destroying military vehicles, but Kyiv denies these claims and accuses Russia of deliberately targeting civilians.

Kryvyi Rih, with a population of 600,000, is located 70 kilometres from the front line in eastern Ukraine. Zelenskyy criticized Russia for continuing offensive actions, highlighting their unwillingness to end the war. He called for allies to pressure Moscow for a peace deal and for increased support to bolster Ukraine’s air defenses against Russian aerial threats.

Zelenskyy also criticized the US Ambassador’s response to the attack, stating that it was “unpleasantly surprising” for not explicitly naming Russia as the perpetrator. The President emphasized the need to call out Russia’s actions in order to end the war. Zelenskyy’s words reflect the frustration and devastation being felt in Ukraine as they continue to endure daily Russian strikes on their cities.
