West Virginia union representatives are urging the state’s elected leaders to speak out against what they call “reckless cuts” to the federal workforce. This comes after dozens of employees in Morgantown were fired by a federal office. Dan Doyle, vice president of the American Federation of Government Employees Local 1995, is calling on Congress to ask the president to stop the cuts and take a more measured approach to reforming government and balancing the budget. Doyle described the current actions as chaotic, disruptive, counterproductive, and wasteful.
The union representatives highlighted the need for a more strategic approach to budget balancing, similar to what was done in the 1990s. They emphasized the importance of avoiding chaotic and disruptive measures that can have negative impacts on the federal workforce and the overall efficiency of government operations.
Doyle also called on West Virginia’s elected officials to not remain silent on the issue and to advocate for a more sensible approach to reforming government operations. The union representatives are hoping that their calls will prompt action from both state and federal leaders to address the concerns raised by the federal workforce in West Virginia.
