Much of the U.S. remains concerned about frigid temperatures and flooding

Frigid temperatures continued to affect millions across the Midwest, Mid-Atlantic, and Southeast, with frost and freeze alerts in place for 55 million people. Temperatures were 10 to 25 degrees below average, leading to chilly weather east of the Mississippi River. The National Weather Service advised taking precautions due to cold temperatures, with areas impacted by recent storms feeling the effects. In New York, temperatures in the low to mid-40s would feel much colder due to the wind. Atlanta was expecting freezing or near-freezing temperatures on Tuesday evening. Flooding remained a concern following destructive storms that killed 24 people, with 20 river locations still in major flood stage. Louisville, Kentucky, experienced one of the Top 10 flooding events in history, with the Ohio River reaching 35 feet. The rest of the country could expect scattered showers, thunderstorms, and light snow with relatively low-impact weather. New England would see light snow on Tuesday, while Florida would have thunderstorms. On Wednesday, more showers and storms were expected in the Northeast, along with strong storms in the Tennessee Valley. Overall, a slow rebound of temperatures was anticipated heading into the weekend.
