Former North Texas basketball standout Brenen Lorient will be transferring to West Virginia University to follow head coach Ross Hodge, according to a report by Dushawn London of 247Sports. Lorient made the decision to enter the transfer portal with the intention of either declaring for the NBA Draft or joining Hodge at WVU.
Lorient, who was voted the American Athletic Conference Sixth Man of the Year and was named to the All-Conference First Team, averaged 11.7 points and 4.9 rebounds per game this past season as a junior. The Florida native had an impressive season coming off the bench in all 36 games for North Texas.
During his time at North Texas, Lorient showcased his skills by shooting 57.1% from the floor and averaging over a block per game. His standout performance of the year was a 20-point, eight-rebound game against Temple in January.
Lorient will be joining UNC Wilmington’s Harlan Obioha as the newest members of WVU’s transfer class. The Mountaineers are looking to bolster their roster as they prepare for the upcoming season. Fans can find more coverage of WVU basketball recruiting at WV Sports Now.
This transfer news comes as a significant development for WVU basketball, as Lorient’s skills and accomplishments at North Texas make him a valuable addition to the team. Hodge and Lorient will now look to continue their success at West Virginia University in the upcoming season.
