Tucker hosts City Nature Challenge event | Updates on News, Sports, and Jobs

West Virginia’s first-ever City Nature Challenge, hosted by The Nature Conservancy in West Virginia (TNC), is set to kick off today and run until April 28. The event, part of a global initiative to connect people through local nature, encourages participants to document wildlife in their neighborhoods using the iNaturalist app. Recorded species will be identified by the online community from April 29 to May 4, with results announced on May 5. TNC will kick off the event with a tree planting at Canaan Valley State Park in Tucker County.

Participants can join the event by meeting at the Canaan Valley State Park Maintenance Road at 10 a.m. The challenge aims to promote biodiversity science and conservation, allowing individuals to contribute to the understanding of plants and wildlife in their communities. The City Nature Challenge is open to the public and offers a fun and educational opportunity to observe and document the natural world. Interested parties are encouraged to participate and help build the event for potential future locations throughout West Virginia.
