Noem, who has Secret Service protection in her role, was dining with her family at Capital Burger when the masked suspect approached. Surveillance footage showed him passing by two plainclothes Secret Service agents, taking a seat next to Noem, and discreetly dragging her purse towards him before stealing it and leaving. The stolen purse contained $3,000 in cash, her DHS access badge, passport, credit cards, blank checks, keys, and her driver’s license.
The investigation is ongoing, coordinated between the Metropolitan Police and U.S. Secret Service. When asked for comment at the White House Easter Egg Roll, Noem declined to provide details, stating, “I don’t think I can comment on it yet. It’s not resolved yet.”
