West Virginia Football Adjusts Roster Amid Transfer Portal Activity
MORGANTOWN, WV – The transfer portal has seen significant action recently, and the West Virginia Mountaineers have made notable adjustments to their football roster.
In a surprising move, offensive lineman William Reed, who committed as a grad transfer from Princeton in January, was granted a release and has re-entered the portal. Reed had planned to join the Mountaineers this summer but chose instead to finish his final semester at Princeton. His departure adds to a competitive offensive line, which now includes several players with just one season of eligibility remaining, such as North Alabama transfer Mickel Clay and redshirt junior Landen Livingston, who has been taking starting snaps at center.
With a crowded offensive line featuring former Jacksonville State player Xavier Bausley and another potential transfer in Will O’Steen, Reed likely reassessed his options and opted for further opportunities elsewhere.
On a brighter note, the Mountaineers have secured a commitment from kicker Kade Hensley, previously of Coastal Carolina. Hensley boasts an impressive career record of 117-for-118 on extra points and 34-for-43 on field goals. Notably, he has made 10 of 13 attempts from 40-49 yards, showcasing his potential impact in the upcoming season. Hensley expressed his enthusiasm for joining the Mountaineers, stating, “Excited to announce I’ve taken a Full Scholarship opportunity at West Virginia! Almost Heaven!”
As the spring transfer portal period continues, the Mountaineers remain focused on strengthening their squad, navigating both losses and additions as they prepare for the next season.
