West Virginia Football Signs Transfer Wide Receiver Justin Smith-Brown

MORGANTOWN, WV — The West Virginia Mountaineers football program continues to enhance its wide receiver corps with the addition of transfer Justin Smith-Brown from South Carolina State. Standing 6-feet-1 and weighing 190 pounds, Smith-Brown officially visited Morgantown on April 21, shortly after receiving a scholarship offer when he entered the transfer portal on April 16. Wide receivers coach Ryan Garrett led the recruitment.

Smith-Brown had a notable three-year tenure at South Carolina State, amassing 81 catches for 1,196 yards and 7 touchdowns. His most productive season came in 2024, where he recorded 54 receptions for 749 yards and 4 touchdowns. With one season of eligibility remaining, he aims to contribute immediately to the Mountaineers.

In addition to Smith-Brown, the Mountaineers recently added North Carolina transfer Christian Hamilton, emphasizing their drive to strengthen the wide receiver position. With Smith-Brown’s experience and skills, including impressive run-blocking abilities and contested catch success, he adds depth and competition to a group of 14 scholarship receivers. Further transfer additions are anticipated as the Mountaineers seek to enhance their offensive strategy under head coach Rich Rodriguez.
