US Air Strikes in Yemen Kill Eight, Death Toll Exceeds 220
Recent US military strikes in Yemen have resulted in the deaths of at least eight individuals and injuries to several others, according to reports from Houthi-affiliated media. These attacks, which targeted the Bani al-Harith district near the capital, Sanaa, are part of an intensified US campaign that has seen more than 800 strikes since mid-March, bringing the total death toll to over 220.
Al Masirah TV reported early Monday that the latest assault claimed the lives of eight, including women and children. The US also conducted strikes in the Amran and Saada governorates, with Houthi officials indicating additional fatalities in both areas. Notably, a previous attack on Sanaa had also resulted in casualties.
In a statement, the US military’s Central Command (CENTCOM) acknowledged that hundreds of Houthi fighters and leaders have been killed since March 15 and confirmed that operations would continue. CENTCOM declined to provide specific details about the strikes, reinforcing that operational security is a priority.
US forces are justifying their actions by citing the Houthis’ threats to maritime security in the Red Sea and their attacks on Israel. The Houthis, meanwhile, claim their missile strikes on shipping connected to Israel are retaliatory measures against Israel’s military actions in Gaza.
The recent escalation in airstrikes coincides with heightened US efforts to pressure Iran, the main supporter of Houthi forces, amid ongoing nuclear negotiations. The US military operations are being executed from two aircraft carriers, with the situation remaining tense as Houthi forces persist in their missile attacks against both US and Israeli targets in the region.
