West Virginia Football Signs ACC Transfer Running Back and Jacksonville State Transfer Wide Receiver

West Virginia Football Welcomes Key Transfer Additions

Mountaineers Head Coach Rich Rodriguez and his staff continue to enhance the WVU football roster through the transfer portal, securing two significant commitments this week. Jaylan Knighton, a seasoned running back from SMU, is the headline addition. Knighton, entering his sixth year, boasts an impressive background, having initially made his mark at the University of Miami, where he accumulated over 1,100 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns as a freshman. Following his tenure at Miami, he transferred to SMU, where he achieved his best season in 2023, rushing for 745 yards and seven touchdowns.

Knighton’s journey includes navigating injuries that sidelined him early in the 2024 season, allowing him to redshirt and preserve his final year of eligibility. Over his career, he has amassed a total of 1,981 rushing yards and 17 touchdowns.

In addition to Knighton, the Mountaineers added Jordan McCants, a wide receiver from Jacksonville State. McCants, a familiar face to Rodriguez and wide receivers coach Ryan Garrett, was part of Rodriguez’s initial recruiting class at Jacksonville State. After redshirting in 2022 and playing sparingly in 2023, he emerged as a reliable target, recording 15 catches for 146 yards last season.

McCants will join other former Jacksonville State teammates at WVU, including wide receivers Cam Vaughn and Jared Bowie, who transferred earlier this year. The influx of talent from the transfer portal reflects Rodriguez’s strategy to strengthen the Mountaineers’ roster as the team prepares for the upcoming season.

With these latest additions, the WVU football program aims to bolster its competitiveness and depth in the upcoming season, creating excitement among fans and stakeholders.
