West Virginia Passes Landmark Automotive Bill Protecting Vehicle Choice
West Virginia recently celebrated a significant victory for vehicle consumers as Governor Patrick Morrisey signed SB 573 into law. This landmark legislation, backed by the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) and the Performance Racing Industry (PRI), prohibits state limitations on the use, sale, or purchase of motor vehicles based on energy sources, effectively safeguarding internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles from potential bans.
The new law aligns with SEMA and PRI’s stance that innovation should stem from consumer choice rather than government mandates. By maintaining a technology-neutral approach, the legislation allows businesses to continue developing and selling performance-related products across various vehicle types—including gasoline, diesel, hybrid, and electric.
