West Virginia Mountaineers Finalize Coaching Recruitment Strategy

Morgantown, WV – The West Virginia Mountaineers have strategically outlined their assistant coaches’ recruitment areas as they seek to bolster their football program. Each assistant will focus on specific regions while also engaging in broader recruitment efforts across the nation.

Senior offensive assistant Travis Trickett will take a comprehensive approach to recruiting, putting special emphasis on talent-rich South Florida, Central Ohio, and the Savannah, Georgia region. Quarterbacks coach Rhett Rodriguez will primarily scout for quarterbacks, employing a national strategy while maintaining a local focus within a six-hour travel radius.

Running backs coach Larry Porter is set to recruit talent from areas north of Atlanta, Georgia, as well as the key Charlotte area and parts of South Carolina. Wide receivers coach Ryan Garrett will cover a national scale, focusing on Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, Florida, and expanding into Columbus, Ohio.

Tight ends coach Michael Nysewander will prioritize recruiting tight ends while also targeting Alabama, Mississippi, Florida, Georgia, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. Offensive line coach Jack Bicknell will tap into his Northeast connections as he looks for talent within a six-hour radius and beyond.

Defensive recruits will be managed by Bandits coach Jeff Casteel, who will canvass the junior college ranks nationally. Cornerbacks coach Rod West will hone in on his native Alabama and other southern states including North Carolina, South Carolina, Atlanta, and Florida, while also scouting locally within a four-hour radius.

Finally, special teams coordinator Pat Kirkland will oversee the recruitment of specialists nationwide, in addition to working within the six-hour region.

This targeted strategy highlights West Virginia’s commitment to building a robust roster and enhancing their competitive edge in college football.
