West Virginia Mountaineers Bounce Back Against Kansas State
Morgantown, WV – After struggling in their last two games with late-game collapses, the West Virginia Mountaineers regrouped to defeat Kansas State 10-3 Saturday, leveling their three-game series at 1-1. Kyle West delivered a pivotal grand slam in the fourth inning, driving in four runs that propelled the Mountaineers to a commanding lead.
Chase Meyer started for WVU but faced early challenges, allowing three runs in the first two innings. However, he settled down, completing 4.1 innings while striking out four batters. Relief pitcher Ben McDougal turned in a stellar performance, pitching 4.2 scoreless innings to secure his first win of the season.
West Virginia’s offense came alive, scoring six runs in the fourth inning alone, capped by West’s impressive 401-foot homer on a full count. Jace Rinehart also shone, contributing with a pair of doubles that helped him reach 50 RBIs for the season.
With the victory, the Mountaineers not only celebrated their 40th win of the season, tying a program record with the 1994 and 2023 teams, but also moved within striking distance of clinching the Big 12 regular season title.
