St. Joe’s Cornerback Masiia Acrey Receives West Virginia Offer
Philadelphia, PA – Masiia Acrey, a 2027 cornerback from St. Joe’s, received an unexpected scholarship offer from West Virginia following one of his spring practice sessions. The 5-foot-11, 175-pound athlete already boasted offers from top programs including Nebraska, North Carolina State, and Virginia Tech, but the Mountaineers expressed particular interest after cornerbacks coach Rod West observed his impressive skills during drills.
Acrey’s ability to maneuver smoothly, open his hips, and execute clean breakouts caught West’s attention. “He loved how I played off-man during one-on-ones and press,” Acrey shared. Last season, he showcased his defensive prowess with 29 tackles, 19 passes deflected, and 4 interceptions.
While Acrey is unfamiliar with the Mountaineers’ program—aside from notable alumni like Tavon Austin—he intends to explore the school further with plans for a visit this summer, alongside a trip to Indiana. He is searching for a college that provides robust academic support and a nurturing environment. He stressed the importance of having a coach who is committed to his growth as both an athlete and a person.
