Press Release: West Virginia Baseball Secures NCAA Championship Bid
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The West Virginia University baseball team has been awarded an at-large bid to the 2025 NCAA Baseball Championship. The Mountaineers, entering as the No. 2 seed, will compete in Clemson, South Carolina, facing No. 3 Kentucky in their opening matchup scheduled for Friday afternoon at 12 p.m. The game will be broadcasted live on ESPNU.
This marks the Mountaineers’ 17th appearance in the NCAA tournament, and they have clinched a spot for the third consecutive year, a feat not accomplished since the early 1960s when the team qualified for four straight tournaments. Head coach Steve Sabins has made history by guiding the team to an NCAA Regional in his inaugural season at the helm.
In previous tournament history, the Mountaineers own a record of 15-27 in regional competition, with a notable 3-0 performance in last year’s Tucson Regional. In the opening round of the festivities, host and No. 11 national seed Clemson will face No. 4 seed USC Upstate later that same day, at 6 p.m. ET.
Fans eager to support the Mountaineers can purchase all-session tickets starting Wednesday, May 28, at 10 a.m. ET, through the Clemson Ticket Office and online at www.clemsontigers.com. Ticket prices are set at $60 for all-session reserved seats, with individual session prices starting at $15 for adults and $10 for those under 18, dependent on availability. After the reserved options have been exhausted, standing room tickets will be available.
