Accidental Shooting Claims Life of Woman in West Virginia
Charleston, WV — Tragedy struck at a Sheetz convenience store early Tuesday morning when an accidental shooting led to the death of 42-year-old Tiffany Adkins. Authorities report that 18-year-old Jacob Fields faces multiple charges, including wanton endangerment and involuntary manslaughter, following the incident.
Police arrived at the Sheetz store on MacCorkle Avenue around 12:10 a.m. to find Adkins critically injured. It is alleged that Fields accidentally discharged his firearm while wiping down the barrel while parked at a gas pump. The bullet pierced through his vehicle’s windshield, striking Adkins in the back of the head as she walked towards the store entrance.
Adkins was quickly transported to a local hospital but later succumbed to her injuries. Fields remained at the scene when officers arrived and was taken into custody soon after. This incident raises ongoing concerns regarding gun safety, particularly in public spaces.
The community mourns the loss of Adkins, while Fields now faces serious legal consequences for the tragic accident. Further investigations are expected as the case unfolds.
