Coffeyville’s Rails to Trails Project Nears Completion
COFFEYVILLE, Kan. (KOAM) – The Rails to Trails Project in Coffeyville, which aims to enhance outdoor recreation accessibility, is in its final phase with completion anticipated by August 2025. Launched in 2023, the project is funded by a Kansas Department of Transportation grant, allowing the city to improve its trail system without solely relying on local tax revenue.
Currently, trail users can access about 0.82 miles of the expanded pathway, which starts at Highway 166 near Braum’s and extends into the active construction area. Recent weeks have seen significant progress, including the clearing of numerous trees along the trail path, demonstrating the project’s momentum towards its goal.
The timeline for full extension is set for August 2025, providing residents the opportunity to engage in walking and biking during favorable late-summer weather. This initiative represents a broader commitment to expanding recreational opportunities and promoting active transportation options for the community.
The Rails to Trails Project offers multiple benefits: it creates safe spaces for exercise, connects various city areas, and supports both recreational and commuter cycling. As the community looks forward to the project’s completion, it symbolizes a significant investment in the city’s infrastructure and future health.
