In North Elba, New York, two hikers in the Adirondack Mountains mistakenly reported a third member of their group had died after consuming hallucinogenic mushrooms. The incident occurred on Cascade Mountain, a well-known hiking destination in the region. On Saturday, the hikers called 911, claiming one of their companions had died. Upon arriving at the scene, a state forest ranger found the two hikers in an altered mental state and reported that they appeared disoriented. They had also informed a steward that they felt lost.
The supposed deceased hiker, however, was found to be alive and uninjured. The ranger then helped escort the two confused hikers down to an ambulance, which transported them to a hospital for further evaluation, while the third hiker was taken back to the group’s campsite. Eventually, the hikers regrouped without any injuries or further complications.
